Happy Easter! Jesus is RISEN. RISEN indeed

The battle against sin and death has been won for those who believe.

My good friend’s son used to love to dress up in a Buzz Lightyear costume as a child. On a nearly daily basis, he would put on his costume which would slide on over his clothes and he would become Buzz. He would stand up a little straighter as he readied himself to battle his imaginary foes. He was a warrior in training.

Scripture tells us that the thief has come to kill, steal, and destroy; therefore, it would be prudent to remain alert to enemy attack and be prepared to fight back. Sometimes these battles are waged in our minds. Anxiety, depression, anger, bitterness, resentment, negative self-talk and pride for example. You may wonder how you fight an invisible enemy and that would be a good question. I believe, like a child putting on a hero costume over their regular clothes, we must put on the Armor of God (Righteousness, Truth, Salvation, Faith, The Spirit, Peace) before we do anything else. We can then confidently pray for God to show us how to proceed. These may include things like seeking out wise counsel, doctors, nutrition changes, exercise, and fellowship, showing us a new perspective and/or giving us a strong desire to change. The good news is that the LORD is with each of us and goes before us, so there is no reason to be afraid.

What are you battling in your life right now? Are you a warrior or a victim? Are you looking to the LORD to direct your next steps or relying on yourself?

“It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
