Weekly Reflection – Packing Tape

I have a love/hate relationship with packing tape.

When you can get it on the box properly, it works well and holds everything in its proper place. However, oftentimes I can’t get the tape onto the box before it sticks to something else first. It may stick to itself and you can’t even get the tape roll started. It sometimes sticks to the tape holder and you have to waste a bunch to get it aligned just right.
I confess that like that packing tape, I can tend to cling to the wrong things. I like to stay in my comfort zone and cling to my current circumstances. I have a good life. I am content and enjoy where my life is right now. There is no motivation to make any changes and if I am honest, there is fear that change can make life worse instead of better. But what if God is calling me toward something better? What would it look like to live my life clinging to Jesus rather than my circumstances?
Even when our life is already wonderful, we still have hope toward our future. When we are presented with the unknown, we need to trust in the Lord that he has plans for an abundant life for us. A life that is full and beyond our imagination.
What do you tend to cling to when presented with change? What would it look like for you to cling to Jesus instead? Do you trust Him that he is moving you toward something better?
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD you God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
