Weekly Reflection – Air Filters

We have moved into a new house and we have been getting used to the air conditioning.

The upstairs stays much cooler than the main level and the back bedroom on the main feels at least 5-10 degrees hotter than any other room in the house. It’s a weird deal. I would put my hand over the register and you could feel the air blow pretty well in most areas, with the exception of the back bedroom and hardly any air was coming out. I called to schedule a service and right before he came out, I felt the air again. My first response was, “well that is typical…now the guy is going to think I am nuts”… but I was curious and wanted answers as to what was going on. One of the first things the a/c guy did was check how the air flowed and then checked the filter. It turns out that the filter was so clogged up with dirt that the whole filter had collapsed in on itself and it was all crumpled up in the unit. That is why the air suddenly started blowing again…the air wasn’t even going through the filter anymore! We had been doing some remodel work which had created a lot of dirt, so that made sense. Once the filter was replaced, air started to blow better. The mystery was solved.

Air filters give me a picture of how we could live and breathe if the Truth of God were our only filter. Unfortunately, our individual truth is reminiscent of all that dirt and grim that attaches itself to the filter of God which keeps us from breathing like we should. When we do this, we aren’t living the abundant life God wants for us.

We now know that when the air stops flowing well, we need to check the filter.
