Hurricane Ian is currently making its way through Florida. We are still waiting on specifics regarding our little community on Don Pedro Island, which got hit yesterday.

As we watched the news yesterday, we saw that the eye of the hurricane passed pretty much right through the island. The eye tends to have the least wind and the clearest skies. The eye is not a bad place to be; however, the eye wall and surrounding areas that come before and after the eye are very worrisome. We are expecting devastation and a changed landscape, but the sense of community remains unchanged.

When I think of the eye of the storm, it reminds me of the peace and calm Christ provides in the middle of the storms of life. As the anxiety and emotions swirl around, as difficult decisions are being made, Christ is at the center. I have a renewed sense of hope, even as my heart is racing while waiting for news. It's not a hope regarding an intact home, but the eternal hope that only Christ can provide.

“fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
