In July of 1976, my mother gave me a music box (I was 5 years old, if you were wondering).

I still have it and it is of Betsy Ross sitting on a rocking chair, sewing an American flag and it plays Yankee Doodle. It was a gift to commemorate the 200th year anniversary of our country’s independence. A long time ago, soldiers fought for and won the freedoms we still have today. As crazy and messed up as our country is right now, as we approach the 4th of July, it is important to take time to acknowledge the gift of freedom that we all still enjoy today. I am certainly grateful.
As we approach “Independence Day”, I can’t help but think about a different kind of freedom, through Christ, our Lord and savior. We have the ability to recognize sin and the freedom to turn away from it, through the Holy Spirit. We didn’t do anything to deserve this gift, His sacrifice. Jesus truly is the ultimate gift and I am very grateful.
What are some good ways we can commemorate freedom in Christ?
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17.
