Do you suffer from Invisible Braking Syndrome (IBS)?

I have been recently diagnosed with Invisible Braking Syndrome (IBS). (Yes, I made this term up but a close family member insists that it is very real!)

It flares up when I am riding in the passenger seat of the car. My body tenses and my left foot has an incontrollable reflex toward the floor board as I ride. I have tried to hide it by curling my toes inside my shoe. I have tried pretending I was just bending down to get something or that I was looking at something very interesting out the window. But, it’s still noticeable and highly annoying to the driver.
It can be hard and scary to give up control. If I were a betting woman, I would say you are familiar with this condition and probably have suffered from this at least a time or two.
I have discovered that my restless foot and tense muscles has a lot to do with how my life is going at the time. If life isn’t going smoothly, then I get tense about every area of my life. The more tense I get, the more I try to control my surroundings.
The good news is that there is a cure which involves trusting in the Lord. And lots of prayer! I need to trust that the Lord is working not only in me but in everything around me. When things seem chaotic and visually overstimulating, I need to take a step back and get a bigger perspective. I need to wait to speak until the Holy Spirit leads me. I need to breathe and remind myself that “God has got this”. Can you relate?
How often do you find yourself trying to control the people and/or environment around you?
How would you rate your current life intensity? How is it impacting your desire to control
things around you?
Do you ever get visually overwhelmed where things around you feel like they are happening too fast?
Scripture
“Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.” Psalm 37:5
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7
