If you are like me, you are probably pretty busy when you travel. Things to do, people to see, and all that…

Some of us just love to travel, explore new places, and be around new people. Others prefer to stay close to home. I would guess I am somewhere in-between.

Getting away from routines can be good but it can also wreak havoc on my daily habits. Suddenly, I am eating differently, exercising more sporadically, and being pulled in different directions trying to make the most of my time.

Travel makes it difficult for me to concentrate with all the irregular “to do’s” bombarding my brain. On a recent trip, I joke that I was technically in the Word all day that week because it took me that long to do my morning bible study because I just couldn’t think straight. Ideally, I would be able to truly live the Word, day and night regardless of the circumstance or location.

I am reminded in the scriptures that Jesus was a traveler. He ate when he was hungry, got plenty of exercise walking from place to place, and was intentional as he spread the good news while performing miracles during his ministry. His example shows us what it is like to be focused and on mission. Every action, Word, deed, and “to do” being clear, purposeful and complete.

I am so thankful for Jesus’ showing us the way and for the Holy Spirit inside us as a guide. Travelling creates such a great opportunity to proclaim the good news and spread the gospel. As scripture tells us, “The harvest is plentiful”!

Do you get overwhelmed when you travel? Find it hard to focus?

What can you learn from the example of Jesus?

What would it take for you to see yourself as a “laborer in his harvest”?

Scripture

“And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and dealing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless; like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.’” Matthew 9:35-38

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8
