Be Still

Have you ever been sitting in a stopped car and the car next to you moves and then suddenly you think your car is moving? You have a little startle reflex and your heart starts racing. It’s a strange sensation, isn’t it?

I was kayaking the other day and I noticed how everything around me was in some kind of movement. It was fascinating and a bit startling at the same time. I could look up at the blue sky and a few cotton ball clouds were moving at their unique pace high above. The wind was making the water seem like it was going in one direction, while the tide was doing something entirely different. The combination made both directions that I paddled feel like I was moving against the wind. When I stopped paddling and just sat there, I was still moving. However, I could only tell by watching the docks and houses on my right and left.
Nature has a way of putting things in perspective, doesn't it? We are so small in comparison to everything around us and God controls it all. When he tells us in scriptures to “be still, and know that I am God”, I think I have a better picture of it now. When I am still, it’s much easier to notice God actively moving all around me. Just like when I stop paddling for a moment and observe everything moving all around me.
What about you? What do you notice around you if you stay still for a bit?
How much do you depend on God compared to other people?
Do you ever feel misaligned with the current pace of your life? Things around you not moving fast enough for you? Maybe you feel like things are too fast and you need to catch up?
Do you live a pace of life as if you TRULY know that He is God?
Scripture
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10
Good reminder for me!
